Doris Gutiérrez-Rosales (Ph.D. Candidate)
Department of Computer Science, Stony Brook University

I am a fifth-year Ph.D. student in the Computer Science program at Stony Brook University, and a member of the Visualization Lab under Prof. Arie E. Kaufman.

My research covers the intersection of Extended Reality (XR), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and immersive visualization. I design and evaluate cross-platform interaction techniques that span Mixed Reality head-mounted displays, traditional desktop environments, and large-scale immersive facilities. My work examines how users perform complex analytical tasks across different modalities, with a particular focus on gesture interaction, spatial interface design, and the cognitive demands introduced by 3D environments.

I am particularly interested in applying XR to complex analytical domains such as network security and in developing adaptive interfaces that respond to users’ behaviors and interaction patterns. I also work with advanced visualization facilities—including SILO—to study how large-scale environments support perception, decision-making, and user engagement in analytical tasks.

I earned my B.S. in Computer Science from the Technological University of Panama, completed my M.S. in Information Technology and Communications in 2010, and later completed my Master’s Degree in Higher Education with a specialization in Technology and Educational Didactics in 2014.
